| | | Great Spotted Woodpecker Great excitement this evening as we realised that the bird we were watching on the nuts on our bird table was a woodpecker. A male Great Spotted. That's a first for us!! |

| | | Re: Great Spotted Woodpecker Hi Kate, I had two firsts last week - a pair of Goldfinches and a Great Spotted Woodpecker, which appeared on the nut feeder just before 7:00am and has been a regular visitor since, always very early in the morning and once or twice in the early evening. It's great when you see a new species in the garden

He came regularly for about three weeks and then vanished. I'm glad to say he reappeared last night at 8pm after 2 weeks of being away. Just hoping he'll stick around.

| | | Re: Great Spotted Woodpecker Well done, I hope he becomes a regular visitor! It's always good to get a new bird in the garden, and a woodpecker is a bit special.
We have a male and a female visiting regularly at the moment (always separately), so hopefully we might get to see a juvenile soon as we did last year. |

| | | Re: Great Spotted Woodpecker Thanks for all the replies. We aren't around much in the week so not sure if he has visited since. We may be lucky with a visit next weekend.
ron1863, do you put Nyger seeds out in a feeder? That is the secret to attracting Goldfinches!! We have them competing for a perch although not so much in the last month or so. Definately worth it in the winter, they are SO entertaining & beautiful. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
