I just had to show this not very good photo from my day trip to Norfolk at the weekend. The photo is rubbish, but the subject, a male Montagu's harrier was smashing.
Me and my mates do this day trip to Norfolk every year. It's a killer going there and back from SE Lancs in a day, but the rewards can be great. This year, despite missing out on stone curlew and woodlark for the first time ever, was perhaps the best. At 4am I was watching a nightjar churring away on a dead branch not ten yards away and listening to a nightingale a few moments later. The black-winged pratincole kindly hung about for us and the icing on the cake at the end of the day was my best ever views of golden orioles.
Better than last year when it rained all day and we didn't see a great deal at all.
Regards, Chris
