| | | Always lovely to see a House sparrow. I love these birds, and to know that they are declining and 'Red listed' is worrying. Managed to get a picture of him (or her, i'm terrible with telling the difference.)
Thanks. |

| | | Re: Always lovely to see a House sparrow. I've a very small garden, and regularly attract, neighbors Conifer nesting family of Sparrows.
Mind you I do feed them all year round and provide water and bathing.
Like a Sparrow holiday camp really....... Robin and Blackbirds too

Back to the thread, I recently had a 1 sparrow coming to the garden. Great sight to see. We used to be overrun with them a few years ago and it's absurd how excited I get when I now see just the 1. |

The House sparrow is a regular vistor, yet, i have never in my life seen a greenfinch, goldfinch or bullfinch. I've seen a chaffinch on a rooftop in my area but never in my garden. |

| | | Re: Always lovely to see a House sparrow. It must be a regional thing I am over run by them up here in the garden I am having to top up the feeders at least 3 times a day ,thats mixed sunflower hearts x2 and they have now taken to the fat balls and peanut feeders.
The other birds have to fight to get in

| | | Re: Always lovely to see a House sparrow. The only Sparrows in my garden have been a couple of parents and their six young, that I enjoyed watching at the fat balls with the parents feeding the young who were all lined up along the trellis.

| | | Re: Always lovely to see a House sparrow. Not wanting to rub noses in it an all that...but...we have at least 4 nests around the house, which means a lot of hungry mouths to feed! This little chap fled from the nest a little too early I think, he couldnt even stand let alone fly. Mum spent hours bringing food and encouraged him to 'roll' under the shed! Quality is a bit ropey as it was taken through the double glazing.

| | | Re: Always lovely to see a House sparrow. I,m in central Somerset and have loads of them to upkeep. Replacing fatballs every day at present. They even chase of the thrushes/blackbirds by 3 lining up and firmly nudging the bigger birds off. Interstingly not seen any juveniles so must be nesting elsewhere and commuting to my feeding station. I have wondered whether the number of them is keeping other birds, tits etc away which is a shame. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
