Bird i.d. help required.
I had the good fortune to spend the weekend on the isle of arran. whilst visiting the kings cave I spotted a pair of birds on the rocky shore. they were black with a roundish white patch near tail and distinct red legs, roughly duck sized and with a black bill. in flight the wings appeared to be white in half near body and black to tips. any ideas folks ?

Black Guillemot. Very common around the coasts of Arran - my favourite place in the world by the way!

Lovely birds, common around most of the Scottish Islands

Thanks for the help folks. they were indeed Black Guillimots. I can see why you love Arran Jenny. It is a stunning place.
