| | | Young Bird Id Please This chick was inches away from being squashed by my right boot when I noticed it looking up at me. I tried to encourage it from the path but each time I touched it he/she just opened its mouth.
I wasn't sure what to do with it. If I left it where it was then the next person along would surely step on it. So in the end I picked it up. This seemed to spur it into action and it jumped from my hand and hopped into the undergrowth.
Is it a young Robin or Dunnock? Unknown Chick - Wild About Britain Pics |

Does anyone know what is best to do in these circumstances? I wasn't sure whether to leave it where it was, move it or even bring it home to feed it? |

Do NOT remove the bird from the area, the parents will be around and will be back to feed it. Young birds should never be removed from where you found it unless they are obviously injured.

| | | Re: Young Bird Id Please With fledglings its usually best to leave it be.
I would have done what you did however and picked it up to place it off of the path.
But as the youngster hopped into the undergrowth it was okay. The parent birds I am sure knew where it was and were probably there to feed it as soon as you were out of sight...
