| | | Nightingale in the Open??? or am I going mad... I've never seen (or heard) a Nightingale, but I know they are supposed to hide in the bushes and be very secretive, but I was out on a bike ride the other evening (you will notice the low light on the pictures... not very good I'm afraid, but best I could get) and came across this bird sitting on a telephone line in a quiet country lane (opposite an old orchard) singing it's little heart out. Smaller than a blackbird, bigger than a robin. Sadly I can't even remember what it's song was like... but it was singing well.
Am I going mad or could this be a nightingale? Many thanks. Jane |

Nightingales are a little larger than a dunnock and not streaky but with plain plumage in a sot of chestnut brown above and creamy beige below. Also they have a very strong peak in when they sing and we are almost passed that I think now - May is best for the song at full strength between neighbouring birds. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
