| | | Re: Whats the quality like on this nest box? It looks soundly made - well done. It also seems to be quite sheltered, provided it's not going to get a lot of sun. What direction does it face - or does the foliage on the tree provide plenty of shade during the hottest part of the day?
I've read that it's not a good idea to have a perch on a box - tits don't need one, but it could make access to the box easier for predators. A possible addition is a metal plate round the hole, to stop woodpeckers from enlarging it. |

The box does not face the sunrise or sunset and the foilage covers most of the box which obviously produces shade throughout the day, and the position? I believe the box is facing North West.

| | | Re: Whats the quality like on this nest box? Hello HanDiiMaNz, I agree with the other posters about the perch, the position seems fine. Just one small suggestion, I have found that by recessing the bottom piece of wood inside the four walls it prevents water that runs down the sides from possibly getting in or causing rot. I have doubled the life of mine by doing this. All in all I think your box is excellent...Bob |
