Do you know if this is true? | I can't answer that Fudgey, but one of the Galloway pairs near Beinn an Tuirc successfully reared two chicks last year, and this importantly, following an absence of over 10 years. This was well-publicised as it was within the bounds of one of Scottish Power's wind-farm sites. But it bodes well for the future if this pair in particular take up long-term residence in an area that used to accommodate, to my knowledge, at least another six nesting pairs. Prior to the last eagle dying in the Lake District in recent years, a single bird on the loss of its mate was rarely on its own for very long, and who knows, if it sticks around may well draw a mate from Galloway in the future. I can recall the warden there telling me of the times when a bird had died in the past, and the lone bird would on a clear day soar on thermals to a height that was only just visible with binoculars, and then perform its roller-coaster-like display flights. It was these flights that were said to be visible to the eagles in Galloway, and the short time that they were alone would tend to support this theory.
