| | | What was that bird ? ? ? Hi - I'm adding this thread here to see if anyone can help me identify/name a bird I saw yesterday - didn't have my camera with me, so have no visual to help!
I was visiting a Garden Centre just outside Edinburgh (Scotland) yesterday and heard a really loud bird call from the car park - something vaguely like a seagull or a baby's cry. Very distinctive. Very loud. Garden centre is on a large site, and is located quite near a motorway.
It was a medium sized bird (bigger than a blackbird or a magpie), mainly black but with some white feathers, long red sharp beak, long spindly red legs, and it didn't fly off even when one or two people approached it quite closely. It just continued to strut about!
Nobody seemed to know what it was and we agreed that we'd never seen anything like it before ; can you help? Any pic/photo/image would really help as I reckon I'd recognise it on sight.
Kind regards

I'd definitely agree with Jason.

| | | The Oystercatcher Hi and thanks for your responses to my query.
Yup, I reckon it was the Oystercatcher - and I enjoyed reading the repartee amongst you all in your feedback!
Cheers
