Egg ID

Hello All

I found the remnants of a birds egg in my garden this morning - it seemed quite round and was pure white - probably slightly larger than an inch in circumference.

Can anyone help me identify it or does anyone know of a good website that would help?

Wild guess - Woodpigeon? Their eggs are white and size would sound sensible.

Wood pigeon eggs are quite oblong. Collarred doves are more round do that's my guess ( or a stock or turtle dove)

Woodpigeon eggs can be round and the size fits Woodpigeon more than Collared Dove. Could be Little Owl.

Many thanks for all the replies - however having looked at the size again and my earlier post - it should read 1 inch diameter!

Does that still fit with wood pidgeon etc? We have lots around - and also collared doves for that matter.

If it was only 1 inch then maybe Collered Dove instead of Woodpigeon after all. Collared Dove eggs would be about an inch whereas Woodpigeon a bit bigger (hence originally thinking Woodpigeon).

One inch diameter would fit Wood Pigeon; Collared Doves would be smaller than that.

Fair enough.

I was going by my experience, plus BTO data which was suggesting that Woodpigeon slightly bigger than 1 inch and Collared Dove slightly smaller than WP.

I thought maybe Stock Dove too, but they are more similar size to Woodpigeon than Collared Dove.
