Yeah, the one I made an earlier thread about
:
here
It had been sitting there for nearly two months. No, there was no other geese present. No, there never were any goslings. My guess is, if it did lay anything, the egg(s) were infertile. I think two months is far too long an incubation period, most sources say a month at most.
But still, I watched carefully just in case.
Yesterday as I was passing by I watched as some primary-school aged boys investigated about the swan nest a few metres away. The swans were away at the time. I kept an eye on them, but they went up to the goose and got all excited, saying something about eggs (eggs aren't visible from where they were, but I guessed they wanted to see if there were any). They got far too close for comfort and the goose started to get defensive, hissing and flapping.
I shouted "OI!" and told them to leave it. They didn't, so I went round to their side and pretty much stood between them and the goose. I got out my phone and two of them scampered, the other three hung about asking if I was phoning the police (I wasn't, I don't have the number, I was phoning someone else I'd been trying to contact earlier). I stayed about until they left.
So, I went off to do what I was out to do, and on the way back the goose was on the canal for the first time I've seen it on the canal since late March/early April. It was barking constantly and seemed somewhat distressed, though it appeared unharmed. It was oddly active though, jumping up and down the bank as if in search (like that one time it got separated from the swans).
It followed me for a while, before someone passed by and it started following and watching that person, and so-on.
I'm not sure what happened, or what was wrong. I'm a bit concerned though. I'll be checking up again today.
