One really inspiring moment for me was years ago when I did my first ever voluntary placement at an RSPB reserve. It was early one morning in late March and my boss was taking me around the route for my CBC transect for the coming summer.
We had been doing a lot of scrub clearence in the previous months on a great area of wet grassland and there was a group of Wigeon grazing on the new grass where we had cleared a load of scrub a few weeks earlier.
My boss turned to me and said 'look Jenny, that group of Wigeon would not be there if it weren't for you doing all that work clearing that scrub'. It really struck a chord - I will never forget that!
And before anyone says it!!! I know on other threads I've said about not interfering with nature - but habitat management such as this I believe is a different story!
