Where to Buy Food?

Hi all, I've been buying bird food for a short while now but in 450g bags. I didn't know there was different qualities of seed until a few weeks later and I'm assuming the stuff I buy just now is pretty naff! Sooo, is there anywhere I can get better seed (and bigger bags) and what kind of price is good per kg for the usual seeds? I don't live near anywhere big so more than likely it'll be mail order

I tend to get sunflower seeds & hearts, nigers seeds and peanuts but I'm well aware there's loads more, and in particular I'd like some for the Robins, Mealworms and the like...

The stuff I buy costs about 55-85p/450g and everything else I've seen is at least double that but obviously if it's better for them I'd rather pay more

I buy from Vine House Farm, they are based in Deeping St Nicholas in Lincolnshire (so it would be mail order seeing as though you are in Scotland!). They are a family run farm and produce the vast majority of seed they sell on the farm. They have great conservation measures in place (although I'm not sure what Stewardship scheme they are in) and I reckon they are a great example of how farming should be done!

They sell in 20/25kg sacks and have anything ranging from the bog standard seed mixes to the more unusual and specialist seeds. They also have mealworms/fat balls/suet things plus loads of other bird and wildlife feeding related stuff.

Price wise they are reasonable, £24 for a 25kg sack of mixed seed, which isn't bad at all.

Thanks Jenny, I've been on there before but forgot the name! Seems to be good quality stuff though, sent for a catalogue
