| | | Our garden is full of starling chicks, they are very funny. A while a go i cut back on having a lot of food on the floor because of a pigeon and starling problem where we were being overrun by around 15 pigeons and 40 starlings a day, it wasn`t so much how much they were eating it was the mess that was being left behind by the pigeons and the starlings were bullying other birds off the food.
I bought a bird guard that has covered one of the ground feeders and the only thing i put on the ground now is sultanas mainly for the thrushes and blackbirds, the starlings love them though lol
Anyway over the last week or so we have had a right noise coming from the garden, its a constant cheep, cheep, cheep. I knew it was the starlings but they had never been this rowdy before, i had a look out of the kitchen window and i must have spotted at least 15 chicks on the lawn with their parents, the chicks seem to hang out in little groups of 2 or 3.
Talk about entertaining, i watched 2 chicks do a little funny run and chase after their parent and as they were running they were pecking at mum or dad, the noise is incredible as they shout for more food, they never stop eating
Here is a little pic, forgive the quality as its through a wet kitchen window with a small digi camera. |

Last year in my garden I had a group of robin fledgelings on the ground begging for food and making a lot of noise A chaffinch nearby with a bill full of food stuffed it into the gaping mouth of the nearest robin chick as if to say`Be quiet your mum will be here any minute` L.o.l. Nice pictures, I like the way they're both looking up in the first one

Only a matter of time before the garden will seem full of them-like a creche, all waiting for their parents to feed them!
