Yesterdays trip to Spurn Point Yorkshire proved to be a winner even though getting up at 3:40am was tough! We arrived at 7:20am on a misty, grey morning having driven to the point and parked, we then set off past the jetty to see what was about.
Saw the usual suspects Blue Tits ,Song Thrush ,Whitethroats, Wrens, Chaffinch and half a dozen Whinchat then headed back to the car for breakfast.
En route we saw one of the Yorkshire Wildlife Rangers on his radio, he told us a Honey Buzzard had just been seen and was flying our way!!
One minute later my better half spotted it and although misty we caught our first glimpse of it. It flew out towards the sea but we knew that wouldn't be the last time we were to see it that day, as it was far too misty for it to fly off home for the winter.
10 minutes later and he was back but by this time though, the mist had really descended which made it difficult to photograph. I did however manage to get a record shot and after thinking about it later realised that if the weather had been better maybe I wouldn't have even got that.
It always amazes me that some of the best birding trips my husband and I have had, seem to be when the chances of seeing something out of the ordinary are virtually zero!
I had a great time and can definately recommend taking time to visit this extraordinary piece of coastline.
