Great tit and Coal tit

We have Coal Tits in the garden but I cannot imagine any suitable nests sites around here. I read they nest up to about 1 m above the ground, and even in mouse holes. It's a little confusing as there aren't any mice, and no trees with holes (hardly any trees).

Last year we had a great tit make a nest but they left it and there were know eggs produced.

This year we have bluetits in two of our boxes (nothing in the third box) - but we've had 5 great tit nests since we started recording in 2001.

If you go to the Overview page of our Diary you can see various details of eggs and fledglings etc.

Our three Great Tits fledged on Thursday and have been seen high up in the sycamores.
For the last 12 years or so, Great Tits have always nested in our old letter box, so lots of them here!!
