Linnet in Northants

Do you get Linnets in Northants I have ouly seen them on the coast but today while walking the dog I saw a bird on the verge I think a car had hit it..
It had the markings of a linnet do they live on farmland is It likely it was one..

As far as I am aware Linnets are a fairly common farmland bird throughout England, they defiantly are in the Essex, Herts, Cambs, Suffolk & Norfolk areas where I go birding.

Yes, it's generally a fairly common + widespread finch of open places such as farmland, heathland, coastal grassland, etc. It had declined in recent years but always a pleasure to see + hear.

They are quite common, but red listed due to a large population decline seen in many farmland bird species. -75% population change between 1967-2006 suggested by BTO CBC/BBS data.

You should see the linnets up here..there are thousands..lovely songsters, nothing opitomises an English summer as much as a crimson chested linnet pouring out his enchanting litany while swaying on a sprig of prickly goarse..

Yes I saw some in Cornwall a few years ago will certainly be on the lookout now..
