| | | Fat balls Is there an alternative to hanging fat balls without a fat ball feeder? Because i hear it is unsafe to hang them by the plastic that they are sold in. |

| | | Re: Fat balls I've heard that too and have recently switched to the non-netted fat balls. Although I have to say we were using th enetted ones for years and never saw any problems. There are a variety of holders for the non-netted ones available. We use a couple of spring type ones that I picked up in Pets at Home but you can also get them in garden centres or from the RSPB (online if there isn't a shop local to you).

| | | Re: Fat balls Some fat balls will fit into nut feeders, depending on the size of the feeders you can get from two to five inside.

| | | Re: Fat balls I make mine, far cheaper and can mould them to any shape, plus i control exactly what's in them.
I find the easiest way is to pour molten lard into my mix of seeds, flower, nuts, oats etc and stir untill well mixed in. Remove and shape, JD
When i have bought them removing the net is always done.. although as above I've never had a problem before but prevention is better than a dead bird. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
