| | | What can i do to stop window hits ? its started again..
1st one this time is a baby black bird , i watched him die today
ive got bird alert stickers all over my windows but still they hit.
2 others recently did survive. but im getting pee'd off, i feed them and i like to see them, but now i have had to shut my blind completely of fear of seeing more deaths.
Any ideas welcome please , i must stop this happening. |

The only thing I found that helped a bit was a wind-chime hung over the offending window. Try and see if it helps ok

I came across this by accident.. Please enable your cookies
I worked on a house that had two green woodpeckers on the casualty list due to smacking into windows. It's just the sky's reflection |

| | | Re: What can i do to stop window hits ? Oh dear considering you've got them the only thing that i can think of and what i'd proberly do is install a nice canopy above the window to remove the reflection ?? Not all that practical but an option.
Or like Cazzie said decent wind chimes.. some wooden ones are nice without making a constant annoying racket, or move the feeders further away from the windows...
I'd say it's more common that what you think this problem, although it's not happened to me (yet) |

| | | Re: What can i do to stop window hits ? During the colder months when we had alot of birds on our front feeder, we had quite alot of hits, when they were frightened by traffic noise.
However, because the bird table is close to the window the birds were just stunned and not killed, presumably because they did not build up enough wing power to seriously hurt themselves.
The point is sometimes moving the bird table closer is the answer. if you run out of other options. |

| | | Re: What can i do to stop window hits ? We have found that a lot of people report this happening when there are 2 windows opposite each other in the house so that birds see right the way through to the daylight on the other side.
Blocking this view (a blind or net curtain at one window) can help in these cases.

It was just a pretty metal coppery coloured one that a friend bought me (oops... now I'm in trouble lol!) but I'm sure it did help reduce the number of 'hits' I got.
Yep it's certainly the fact that the birds can see the reflection of the sky in the windows - they just go for it
No easy answers for this one methinks Squeek!
