The point is sometimes moving the bird table closer is the answer. if you run out of other options. | thanks for your thoughts, but im not sure thats what happened here, our table is near to the window, i thinki saw a bigger bird flying away fromthe scene, so maybe the baby black bird was frightened and flew up the garden toward the house. we had a collared dove fly into anothr window last year it was going at such a speed, it really shocked my mum as she was right by that window(surprised the window didnt break) we heard it from the other side of the house. i think that bird must have been chased too. off course unfortunately it died

Blocking this view (a blind or net curtain at one window) can help in these cases. | hi, no we didnt have that situation, just the one window, no through light,we know about that so we tend to keep a door shut to a further room. thanks for your ideas. |

Yep it's certainly the fact that the birds can see the reflection of the sky in the windows - they just go for it
No easy answers for this one methinks Squeek! | hi Cazzie, well we may have a good one, but it will take a while b/c i have to buy it and get it put up , Dan thought of it too.. a canopy. until then i just have to keep my window blind down (boring) but i have to peek out of the bottom, cant resist it. and when i go upstairs is much better as they have never hit an upstairs window as far as i know.
anyway on another note, i see you are a Hedge hog fan, we have foxes, pheasants and now badgers, but only ever seen 2 hedgehogs over the years, so wha t do you suggest to encourage them ? will the badgers eat hedgehog food ? its a bit tricky here feeding foxes badgers and pheasants lol

well the badgers dont come right up to the house as far as we know.
and if we did feed hedgehogs then just out side would be the best place.
but the thing is if we put food out , will we get hedgehogs seeing as we dont get them as far as we know ? and if yes then what do we feed them ?

| | | Re: What can i do to stop window hits ? Our hedgehogs eat Spike's Dinner, a dried food - I've also offered tinned cat food, but so far this year it's been ignored, though it's been eaten in previous years.
I realised a few years ago that we had visiting hedgehogs, because I saw things like this on the lawn: http://www.nature-diary.co.uk/nn-ima...g-dropping.jpg
I've just been out to measure one for you - it's about 4.5cm long. |
