Chiffchaff or willow warbler? I think Chiffchaff but not sure. Any views?

Tricky. Did you hear any song from it?

(I'd guess willow warbler, from leg colour)

Hi-I think it is a chiffchaff,. The only way i can tell in the wild is that i think the chiffchaff tail bobs up and down frequently.Also the willow warbler has a thin line under it's eye[ perhaps].However i'm happy to be shot down in flames- Nice photo by the way.

I think WW - pale legs (definite WW trait), all markings round eye look right and colour is more WW (yellow-green tint).

Agree Willow Warbler- as well as pale legs, fairly long primary projection.

When people say primary projection, what do they mean? I've heard it being used about but but I can't find a definition for the phrase, only the words separately.

Look at the relative distances in the diagram, not necessarily the overall length.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I have learned something from this (& not just the definition of primary projection). I will keep an eye out for my WW family (they are nesting just over the gardent fence in a bramble thicket, I think - the one photographed was taking fibres from a hanging basket) and try to get a sharper shot.
