Cuckoo singing at 3 a.m.

Normally when I am awake at this time of night I only hear owls, but tonight I have a cuckoo for company. Is it normal for them to call at night? It's still pitch black outside.

I've not even heard one in daylight hours yet so lucky you,I've never heard of them calling at night but wouldn't rule it out at this time of year.
