Blue Tit Abandoned - can you help

Hi All

In my garden today my dog came across a little Blue tit who has not yet learned to fly.

As instructed I left the bird and saw that the parents came to feed it. However it is now late and the neighbourhood cats are out in force. I have put the bird inside and plan to put him back first thing in the morning.

My question is does he need feeding in the night and if so what?

I work from home so am hoping to keep on eye on him and think he will be able to fly in a few days.

Your help would be much appreciated

Hi Ruth,

no, baby birds do not need feeding overnight but he will be awake bright and early wanting breakfast so set your alarm clock

its a full time ocupation hand rearing fledglings!! hense all the bird refuges around the uk !you'll be glad too see it fledge!

make sure you have somewhere safe to keep it when it learns to fly, like an avairy, so it can get to grips with cats and other pesky birds.
