| | | Bird Egg Collection Dont worry, i dont do it!
but many years ago, as told to me, by my aunty and uncle, collecting bird eggs was all the rage for a kid back in the dark ages (50's-60's)
my aunty still has a small collection, along with various mammal skulls and bones, even some eggs that would get her banged up for a couple of years.
I think the poacher has become the environmentalist, in many ways
especially in africa!
what are your thoughts on old, pastimes insinc with countryside recreation?
How does a young man/womans pursuits in the countryside compare to that of someone from past generation? for example the dark ages........... |

But thought I would mention In France they're still in the dark ages , however forget the eggs I think they would rather have the stuffed bird!
I can understand them shooting some things maybe rabbits, pigeons, deer even foxes if they devastate the poultry, but I was shocked to see a stuffed kingfisher on a neighbours house plant especially as I have been hoping to see a live one. |

I dont know of any such display in UK, outside theLondon NH Museum |

| | | Re: Bird Egg Collection I must be pretty ignorant, had no idea other countries were so much into hunting and displaying there tokens, for all to see.
Now i know why there are not many wildlife parks in France. I suppose a museum is less costly too.
Although they like to hunt here, however, I must admit have never seen as many varieties of birds in the UK as I have seen here.

| | | Re: Bird Egg Collection My mates and I used to collect eggs when we were young and my dad taught me to only take one egg from a nest.
It was normal for youngsters in those days and wasn't frowned upon.

| | | Re: Bird Egg Collection yeah, la viva la spania is well bad for shooting any flying thing.
but can it not be compared to the ways of the british and fox hunting/
its a tradtion where im from and many people who havnt the foggiest about wildlife or nothing to do with conservation, support fox hunting just because its a tradtion and a way of life! im not for it, but im not against it....
and the end of the day,we eat food and we force others to make that food cheap. |

| | | Re: Bird Egg Collection We also used to collect eggs when we were young it was a common hobby then and at school we used to go on nature walks and pick wild flowers and then take them back to school and each do our own displays in jam jars, the best one got a small prize, where we lived wild flowers were in abundance until everything suddenly had to look 'tidy' and many got sprayed into near oblivion

From my experience of the country and tales I've heard from friends living there if it moves its shot.... act first, think later. Though this is a slightly exagerated view it does happen sometimes. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
