| | | Quiet Please Can people with digital cameras please swtich off the shutter noise wherever possible, I was recently in a hide when 3 peolple came in with what seem the shutter noise volume turn up full, it was deafening and scarred off most of the wildlife . There really is no need for it we all know your taking pictures we don,t need the constant clatter for no reason at all. I also take photos but have turned the shutter noise off, it can be done just take a look in the menu. It is something that has annoyed me for years but this incident has pushed me over the edge. |

| | | Re: Quiet Please I think it depends on which camera you use Morph. I think it's the bridge cameras that have the fake shutter noise, when in fact the shutters are virtually noiseless.
On the other hand, DSLR cameras are performing a physical action to create that noise and therefore the noise cannot be negated. |

There's a shutter silencing feature, but you have to use live view!
The other thing I've seen is to buy 'silencers' for your DSLRs, in which you buy a camera shaped sock that you wrap around the body and most importantly the joint between lens and camera- it just muffles the sound. |

| | | Re: Quiet Please With bridge cameras, the option certainly is there to "turn off" the shutter noise. But as others have said, that option is not on dslr's, the noise totally dependent on the camera itself.
I find that if people and their habits/tech irritate me, which is quite often, I go to places they aren't. It's the only thing I can control, as I've no control over other people. I may not see as much as they may, but it's quieter. |

| | | Re: Quiet Please As others have noted there is no practical way to "turn off" the noise of a DSLR or film SLR shutter as it is a real shutter opening and closing - that said it is extremly unlikely that shutter noise is going to scare off wildlife from a public bird hide - as if the wildlife tolerate the sound of feet shuffling, doors open and closing, hide flaps being opened or closed, tripods being set up, pagers going off , and birders talking each other on to the target (left from the tree 20 metres, down a bit , up a bit ...) then they are not going to be disturbed by the clicking of a shutter.
however if photographing shyer or less habituated species alone from a purpose positioned hide shutter noise can be a problem , and though you cantturn it off you can minimise it by choosing a quiet model ( they vary considerably - which is why i still have an eos 5 film camera as its shutter is extremly quiet), using a blimp or a sock, and by using the mirror lock up feature as much of the noise is caused by the mirror flapping up and down not by the shutter itself. Other considerations are to turn off all the bleeps that modern cameras make, and to consider the noise of your lenses autofocus (again chose a quiet one , or focus manually)
