| | | Pond+Kingifishers Hi all
I have a pond and it is just getting established and have seen my first newts and had a pair of mallards on it the other day I was just wondering what are my chances of getting kingfishers visiting occasionally? I live near a small stream which gets regular visits from other waterbirds and I have seen one kingfisher before earlier this year. The stream links to a river with a very large kingfisher population and I have a pond stocked with sticklebacks and minnows and have placed a branch with a perfect viewpoint over the centre of the pond. So what are the chances ? thanks |

| | | Re: Pond+Kingifishers Hi vinny,
My friend gets them after her fish in the middle of a town..
So you never know. I had one visit my garden before I had a pond it landed on the fence that was about 5 years ago and has never been back..
you may be lucky I don't think anyone can tell you for sure it depends on the birds. |

| | | Re: Pond+Kingifishers It sounds like you have a reasonable chance. We occasionally get to see them when the nearby river is in flood, making it impossible to fish. Having said that, I haven't seen one for a couple of years in our garden. |

| | | Re: Pond+Kingifishers i think you have a good chance considering how close you are to nearby kingfishers and you have a branch for them to stop on. We have 2 lakes where i work and i see them regular but they never stop ,i think its because there is no branches above the water for them to perch on . |

| | | Re: Pond+Kingifishers They'll visit suburban garden ponds. As long as there's a perch over the water you've just got to keep your eyes open. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
