Cuckoos

West of Sheffield, within the last fortnight heard almost every time I've been out there, sometimes two calling. If they are not calling I've usually spotted the meadow pipits etc mobbing them first, then seen the target of their displeasure. 10 May, same area, I was watching a male and female, the male was calling from time to time, and was mobbed by an oystercatcher, and at the same time I could hear another calling in the distance.

Heard one this evening at Cholsey Marsh nature reserve in Oxfordshire, almost a year to the day that I heard one there last year

Sunday 9th May heard a couple (or perhaps one that moved) just outside Colchhester.

There's one calling everyday in the beech trees not far from my back garden,it is there every year,so is it likely to be the same one?

Hi all and thanks for the responses (keep 'em coming, as they say). BarbaraEmma - it could be the same bird. Longevity has not been well documented in cuckoos from what I recall but I know individual warblers have definitely been recorded in the same bush, on the same date in successive years.

Heard at least 2 Cuckoos at College lakes nr Tring, Herts, 3 weeks ago and then a fortnight ago I saw one, (for the first time!) so I know at least one stayed around. Hope this helps!

Heard cuckoo every day last week. On the lake at Stanton Harcourt, Oxfordshire.

We had one calling yesterday at Bowyer's Water, near Cheshunt.
