Sore throat

This is a strange question but does anyone know if birds get sore throats? We have a dove, that over the last two days, is making the strangest sound I've heard from one. It sounds like one of those squeezy dolls that when depressed makes a horrid screechy sound. I've certainly never heard a dove make anything but it's usual monotonous cooo cooo coo, or it's slightly mouth organ sound when it takes off. Julie

Re: Sore throat

There is a crow around with a husky voice at the moment I would imagine that any bird is capable of a genetic bad throat or even as a result of viral or bacterial infection

Re: Sore throat

The collared doves often make repeated noise like big rusty door hinges.

I have been amused lately by the weird noises made by some crows. They sound as though they are talking with a series of clicks, clucks, grunts and gobbling sounds. I watched one on a post this morning which was clicking and popping. It did this between croaks and I could see its throat form a sort of a bubble to launch each 'pop'.

Re: Sore throat

We have some big trees at the bottom of the garden that are used as roosts by starlings. For about an hour before dark, dozens of them sit in the branches, babbling, squeaking, popping and making an almight din, then suddenly it all stops. Not a noise. Silent. How on earth do they do that at the same time. ww

Re: Sore throat

Don't like the ad on the top of this page. Don't normally take notice but "dove hunting trips in S.America" ...disgusting.

Used to get a bird that imitated the sound of our phone ringing, that was confusing!

Re: Sore throat

I had a Parrot that snored, I kid you not.

Unless it was just my presence, perhaps he really found me boring?.

Please don't answer that.

Yes we get that round here. They gather on the rooftops (thousands of them!....get the washing in quick lol!), and it seems after a good natter and weeze, the silence comes right as they take off - heading for the roosts..
