The Sparrows are nesting in the eaves all around me (none in mine alas)
across the road they had new plastic gutters and fascias fitted and I can see from here at least three pairs busy setting up home

Yesterday I put in the canes for the Lionesses runner beans put in the cross
pieces and tied them in with hessian string this morning all the string had gone except for one piece and there was a male Sparrow, feet braced, neck at full stretch, as he heaved with all his might and main at the last remaining
piece of string. I am an old softy so I cut some lengths of string and looped them loosely around the canes then slackened off the one remaining one.
The cocksparrow came back immediately I had retired to a safe distance,
pulled hard on the object of his desire and did a cartoon head over heels as
the loosened string came away

A dozen more pieces to go, brilliant
