looking at your garden I would introduce some water like a birdbath or even better a pond (if you don't have small children) that will attract lots of birds and I would leave the hanging feeder where it is but get a bird table for wild bird seeds I just put sunflower hearts in mine feeder I also have a nut feeder and fat ball holder that hold 3 at a time..
A picture really does help |

| | | Re: Best place to hang a bird feeder? I agree with Kayleigh about getting a simple old fashioned bird table. In my experience, tits and greenfinches are happy with the hanging feeders, if they aren't too complicated, but most of my other birds rarely use them. All birds are happy with a standard flat topped bird table.
But in this case, position it in a reasonably open area so the birds have a clear all round view, but not too far away from cover. |

| | | Re: Best place to hang a bird feeder? I have tables too Geoff but my feeders are used by all the Finch family except the Hawfinch. All the Tits love them too as well as the Sparrows and Siskins. The Blackbirds and larger birds enjoy groundfeeding as well as the tables.Robins, Dunnocks,Starlings, Crows, Rooks, Jackdaws, Woodpigeons and Collared Doves come in which i have to try and keep down in numbers. We also have a female Sparrow hawk which visits far too often.
Shame your birds don't enjoy your feeders that much.Maybe it is what you put in them or they are badly placed.I do understand regarding the tables though, the birds that can't use the feeders are well looked after here. |

Great pic H and the cage feeders should keep the larger birds at bay. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
