| | | Golden eagles in the Lakes How many eagles are there in the Lake District?
Was camping in the woods at the west end of Wastwater recently, and noticed a pair of large birds of prey passing overhead through the canopy.
I cried 'eagles' to my camping companions, but they didn't bother to get out of their tents to check (it was raining lightly)
Were they right to stay in their tents, or could there be eagles at this location?
What's happened to the Riggindale eagles? |

| | | Re: Golden eagles in the Lakes There is only one (male) golden eagle currently at Riggindale. It's a long time since I have visited, but there is a hide, currently open at weekends only I believe - accessed by walking around The Rigg - the woodland that is prominent on the opposite side of Haweswater to the road near to the car park - then simply following the dry stone wall towards the valley between Riggindale and Kidsty Pike. There were two pairs of golden eagles that nested in the Lake District - but that goes back to the 80's.

| | | Re: Golden eagles in the Lakes I am currently in the lakes on a walking holiday and on Sunday we where up in Wasdale walking along the craggs and scree's above the lake, we saw three of the biggest birds of prey I have ever seen, at first we only saw single birds then 2 joined up and sawed high above the lake when we got back to the car we saw the 3, two seemed to be having a mid air duel while the other looked on.
The wife took some picture not the best quality as they where a long way off, I saw them through my binoculars and the birds where had black/brown/white feathers and at the end of the wing there was three big single feathers.
Could these be Eagles ?? if not what could they be as I've never seen anything so big ?? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
