Dark down except for Yellow belly (as tellow as a grey wagtail) and startling red throat. It may have had a black/dark brown cap but I couldn't be positive.
We live in the country amongst farmland. | Goldfinch to Thrush is a wide range - if small then why not a linnet ? true the red is on the breast but that might be easily mis seen in a hovering flight. More fancifully - but fits the yellow breast/red throat and smaller than a thrush - Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Sphyrapicus varius

| | | Re: Ident please? (no photo!) Nay to the linnet and nay to the YBSS. It must be some escaped jobbie. The yellow breast was sunny, in your face yellow and the red throat was a distinct block of bright, bright red
LOL at the size issue - its kinda hard when all you have to measure it against is the feeder.
Things not been back since our resident GS Woodpeckers returned (I ran out of peanuts and they buggered off!  ) |
