| | | ?Red kite at Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire. I was at Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire the other day and a bird glided overhead which I am fairly sure was a red kite. I know that there are red kites at Eccup reservoir, about 20 miles away. Has anyone else seen any red kites at Bolton Abbey? I can't find any mention of it by searching this site. |

So on the next family outing there I will slip my telephoto into the car and look upwards while eating my sandwiches.
Is it just as a result of the ones being introduced at Eccup that they are being seen at Bolton Abbey or are they getting more common in the UK in general? |

The Yorkshire kites were reintroduced a few years ago (1999 the project began) with stock taken from here in the Chilterns.
Here in the Chilterns, we still provide kite chicks for reintroduction projects in various locations, with the latest one being up in Aberdeen, Scotland.

| | | Re: ?Red kite at Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire. It was I who posted the original query in this thread. I was at Bolton Abbey again this weekend and saw a pair of red kites again. Then, on the way back, along the A660, just North of Golden Acre Park saw 6-8 red kites flying and ducking and diving into a field next to the road. Several cars had stopped. I had my camera with me and took this shot 9amoungst many many others!). This has only been lightly cropped (but unfortunately had to be shrunken to posted to the site) | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
