| | | Local dotterel, South Pennines I'm so happy to have finally seen a dotterel within the boundaries of my village (by a few yards). An iffy photo of a upland beauty.

A couple of years ago some bloke found one in the same place and as dotterel stop off at traditional sites, I began checking it on a daily basis after work last year. Of course, my pal found two last year whilst I was at work, but inadvertently flushed them and they flew off into the distance. So once again, from the 20th April this year, I've been going up in the evenings and lo and behold the same friend again found a single male on Sunday morning. When I arrived there after he texted me there was a good crowd watching it. Then, yesterday, another male turned up and the corking female in the photo.
In one respect, it could be a 'precarious' place to see them and I suspect the site won't have year on year longevity like say Pendle has. It is very prone to disturbance and very accessible from a moorland road. Lots of walkers use the Pennine Way (myself included) and the dimwit scrambler bikers regularly churn the moors up thereabouts.
It is nowt like Pendle or Ingleborough where I've seen them before, where you really have to work (or walk) for them.
I am pleased to get them just in my village though, Saddleworth (and therefore the Yorkshire border) is precariously close!
And thanks Tame for the compliment.
Regards, Chris

Sorry for the slow reply, having lots of internet problems at home at the moment.

For me, as well, it is what they signify. They are a real taste of remote northern uplands and whenever I see them I often wonder where their ultimate nesting site will be, on what mountain, etc.
