| | | Robins Have a pair of robins in the garden at the moment. Unusually ther male is taking seed from the hanging hopper in the apple tree and feeding the begging female. Its brilliant to watch the pair bonding but in all my years of birdwatching robins have never visited a hanging seed container. Anyone have any similar experiences? |

A single Robin comes and takes seed and sunflower hearts from my feeders. Funny, I also thought that Robins didn't do this. |

| | | Re: Robins This is "learned behaviour" I think and Robins are coming more and more to feeders - our pair both come to the hanging seed feeder and stand on the perches while they extract the seed of their choice!

| | | Re: Robins I've had three robins that have regularly visited my seed feeder for the last 3 years or so, they moan like anything if I don't keep it topped up! |

| | | Re: Robins Robins will regularly take seed from feeders, I've seen it quite often.
They predominantely feed on invertebrates and have thin bills designed for taking such prey and so tend to take smaller seeds, seeds which don't require much 'du-husking' or longer, thinner seeds such as Oats as their bills aren't adapted to larger/husked seeds (although I dare say they would take larger/husked seeds sometimes).
Are people finding that they go for smaller/de-husked seeds? (I did a study on this a few years ago so it's quite interesting to me!) |

| | | Re: Robins I've now given up putting normal seeds in the one they use and just buy the robin mix variety, this has the crushed sunflower seeds and mealworms amongst other goodies they like. |
