I worked for a year on a DEFRA contract in Cumbria on the Foot and Mouth crisis and saw first hand how they managed the situation.

Are DEFRA the right people to be handling the bird flu?

Being a farmer there are many things I could say about DEFRA , but I'm far too polite to post them here

As for the question of whether they are fit to handle the possible outbreak of H5N1, all I can say is think back to Foot & Mouth, BSE, etc..... don't really need to say any more do I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
