haha it will definately be the girl ........ and then she'll get the bloke to get all the heavy furniture in and put up shelves.

Just kidding ... no idea really.

I think male wrens build several nests and the girl wrens get to pick which one she likes best .. maybe blue tits are the same

It's pretty much exclusively the female Blue Tit that builds the nest, the males have very little-nothing to do with it.

We've been watching inside nest boxes since 2001, and reckon that the male finds the box and then the female builds the nest (when she's ready - they often spend weeks visiting the box, pecking around inside before anything much happens). With Box 1 this year, the male has been very attentive, and often goes inside to have a look - but as soon as the female comes in he shoots off. Some days before she laid her first egg, he started feeding her in the box a few times each day.

However, today is the first time I've seen the Box 2 pair together in the box - and she's now gone into overdrive, with some frenzied nest building. I wonder if we'll see an egg tomorrow???
