| | | Re: increase in chaffinch? I can't expect to see many different birds as I live in London. It may just be a coincidence but I also saw my first ever chaffinch this year, hoovering up the mess left by the goldfinches and greenfinches. The males are especially colourful! |

| | | Re: increase in chaffinch? we were just in the highlands of scotland and I have to say there were hundreds of them, whereas in the garden we've only got two.
Odd really our garden as we seem to only have two of everthing.... maybe it's the big ark we're building |

| | | Re: increase in chaffinch? The Chaffinch is the second most common bird on my feeders just after the Blue Tits. Lots of Great Tits, Cole Tits, Wood Pigeon, Wrens, Robins and Dunnocks. Very few Thrushes, Sparrows and Blackbirds and never had Goldfinches or Bullfinches.

| | | Re: increase in chaffinch? I too only started to see chaffinches this last twelve months and considering they are supposed to be one of Britains commonest birdies i thought that was a tad strange but then again we have about thirty to forty house sparrows in the garden some days and they are in decline in a lot of places.
Lovely to see the male chaffinch particularly at the minute
His plumage is beautiful and his sings from the lofty branches of a silver birch tree most mornings |

| | | Re: increase in chaffinch? Oddly enuff, I have observed a significant increase in the numbers of our local Chaffinch population. In the immediate area where I live I have noted at least 9 pairs, which as this bird is one of our most beautiful, makes my surroundings all the more attractive.
