| | Identify bird Can anyone help me identify a bird i saw today please,it was the size of starling, on the ground in short grass,it had a black stripe across its eye
grey back, dark wings,and very light brown chest. |

| | | Re: Identify bird Almost certainly a Wheatear - "on the ground in short grass" is a dead giveaway  . They're summer visitors, when migrating they're often found on odd bits of open grassland, particularly near the coast. There are plenty moving through the country right now, I saw a dozen this morning at Landguard.

| | | Re: Identify bird Wheatear is probably the most likely ID - unless it was feeding on the lawn under a bird table!
The wings on a Nuthatch don't tend to contrast with the back in the same way as on a Wheatear.
