| | | I have Bluetits nesting Hi All,
I have just joined this site, I am so excited, we have blue tits in and out of a box we put up. They have been cleaning feathers today and whizzing in and out.
The only thing that worries me is, as we have a table not too far the box, if they see us will they stop coming back? |

| | | Re: I have Bluetits nesting Yeah its pretty cool, Hubby has been busy making wooden bird tables. I have put up peanut holders. And taken photo's of the Blue tits from a far with a zoom lens. However I am worried that if go out in the garden they may not come back, will be scared off by us sitting out in the nice weather? |

Welcome to the site, i hope you enjoy it. One note of caution you said you are putting up nut feeders and although some people do not agree it is generally not recommended to feed whole peanuts when there is a likelihood of chicks being present. A good food for the nursing mother will be meal worms. If you want some advice on nest boxes check out member Elizabeth B she has a great link to her diary/blog.

| | | Re: I have Bluetits nesting Hi welcome to WAB. If there is invertebrate food available they should go for that to feed the chicks over peanuts as invertebrates (particularly caterpillars) are the chicks natural food.
If you have peauts in a wire mesh feeder they won't be able to get whole peanuts out most of the time anyway.
Remember that supplementary feeding is often an important food source for adult birds during the summer (not just in winter), especially in years when invertebrate food is in short supply. |
