The top one is 100% definitely a linnet.

how are you sure?

actually, it would have to be a pretty fat cable for that to be a fieldfare, so linnet is more likely

Yup, I can see your thinking on plumage but...

Tail too short for fieldfare.
Proportions finch-like and not thrush-like.
Breast streaked, and not covered in arrow-shaped spots.
Breast appears uniformly buff and not white/pale.
As you say, it would be a meaty-cable if it were a thrush!

All these point towards linnet.

Although I must admit the more I'm looking at the bird in flight the more it's looking like a Hirundine...
