Oh yes, we have Avocets in the West Mids!
The reserve is a WWT reserve! They have bred well for the last 5 years there. Last year 3 pairs raised 10 young! PM me if you want further information, Squishy!

| | | Re: An early morning reserve visit! Beautiful shots! I love the avocets as well, we've been getting them in Newport, Wales right now. Probably a good dozen of them when we were there yesterday, such a stunning bird. Great to hear they've made it to the midlands as well! Can't say enough about those WWT sites, they're amazing places. |

| | | Re: An early morning reserve visit! What time where you out of bed then, Ruth! It was a lovely morning and driving to the reserve the fields looked lovely with the frost still lay where the early morning sun hadn't melted it! I don't mind the frost knowing that it will be a lovely day afterwards! Good luck with seeing the Avocets soon, Ruth! An update will be great!
Great news with your Avocets, Jen! Is the Newport reserve a WWT? They are great places, managed splendidly for the good of Birds/Wildlife/Flora and Birdwatchers alike! |

| | | Re: An early morning reserve visit! Thanks Pam! To answer your question the Goldcliff Lagoons are not a WWT or RSPB reserve, but if you head over a little bit to Uskmouth, there's a new RSPB reserve there which is also fantastic. Great reedbeds all over the place, with plenty of rarities showing up. I am still gutted that I missed the wryneck that was reported there last year.
My nearest WWT sites are Slimbridge and obviously the one in Wales, near Swansea. I too think the world of them, they're such a great place to view all kinds of plants & wildlife. Wooo, just got promoted to Officer of the Wild Empire, go me |
