Saw a Red Kite just next to RAF Henlow (South Herts) on Wednesday...don't know if that is unusual for the area or not, but I thought I would share it with you anyway! (Also saw a buzzard and a kestrel...hat trick!)

Nice finds Andy. We have Buzzards and Kestrels galore up her but very few Red Kites, although I did see one pair last year. Hopefully more this year as they are such beautiful birds.

Red Kites are certainly spreading out from their release sites in the Chilterns, Andy, so I guess it's not too unusual to see one in that area. I've seen them a few miles south of there (at Pegsdon, near Hitchin).
I think RAF Henlow is just in Beds, rather than Herts. |

Kites are only occasionally spotted at my local RSPB reserve, so I envy you for spotting one Andy. Like Ron we have buzzards all over the place, especially around Kinross, I love them, although the Jackdaws are far less keen and mob them, especially when they have young to protect. Kestrels are fairly common too. It's always a pleasure to spot any bird of prey

my mum regularly sees a pair over a farm near pottersbar on the inside of the m25 so i expect they will venture into london soon. i currently live in aylesbury and they are an every day sighting for me now. | | |
