Another of the greats from the older generation of birders/ornithologists has gone  - we have a lot to thank that generation for in terms of education and learning.
If you have a Collins new naturalist book about birds, its likely Eric Simms will have contributed.
Had a good life though!

A superb Naturalist.
I loved reading his ornithological books.
I was fortunate to attend a couple of his lectures many years ago, he was very enthusiastic about wildlife.
I'm sure he will be greatly missed around his home village, not very many miles from me.

I should imagine they were good lectures oscar!
Just out of interest, this is a similar chap, from Rochdale, who's lectures I have attended - or rather slide and video shows for over 15 years with great pleasure.
Well worth following Gordons BLOG too!

Ken Gordon Yates | Gordon 'what a subject' Yates (he uses that expression a lot) does some great film-shows. One that sticks in my mind from a few years ago at a local Lit' and Sci' meeting was 'Land of Fire and Ice', on Icelandic birds. Another grand one is called something like 'Splendour in the Cotton Grass', detailing a subject dear to my heart, uplands birds in the Pennines.
Didn't know about the blog though Ken. I'll have a shufty.

yeah, gordon majors on scotland and pennine birds really , but always good value!
A Blog worth checking out - he is quite approachable too.
