What a sad end for the Kingfisher! I am surprised that no one thought to check the premises as the Kingfisher was such a regular there and knowing that it roosted in the factory! |

Tragic story and I was surprised that the average lifespan in the U.K. is only around two years. Is this due to our harsher climate.

on the particular building the door was open most of the day but was locked up at night, when the door was locked , the swallows would fly in and out through the letterbox flap which the waterways staff kept propped open with a piece of wood,
what a great bit of precision flying they used, diving in and out through that letter box, and what a great sight it was to watch

There is a field near me with a horse shelter that has two open doorways and the nesting swallows always fly into the left hand door and out of the right hand one, it never varies. I suppose it prevents the parents colliding
