| | | Chaffinch plumage Has everyone else noticed how smart the male chaffies are looking in their breeding plumage? One of my guests is looking so spry lately that I had to do a double take cos I thought he was a bullfinch with such a pink chest. |

| | | Re: Chaffinch plumage Funny how they blend into the background all winter. When they're hoovering up the lawn, I often don't spot them until they move as they are pretty well camouflaged but they certainly stand out now. No idea how to spell camouflage and can't be bothered to look it up BTW |

| | | Re: Chaffinch plumage Spot on with camouflage, Madeline! I checked!
I don't get Chaffinches in my garden but see them at a reserve, yes they are looking smart and colourful! A Great Tit I saw yesterday looked very brightly chested yesterday in the sunshine! In what little sun we had mind! A lovely time of year!
That's a super Chaffie pic, Ruth! |

| | | Re: Chaffinch plumage Yes, seriously smart male chaffies about here too. I have around a dozen most days when I first put out the food (mix of male and female). They have even taken to fluttering by the lantern feeder and grabbing seeds now instead of waiting underneath. |
