| | | Generally, how far would birds roost away from your garden where they feed ? I was just wondering the other day how far do birds roost away from their feeding ground which is usually our back gardens ?
Ive noticed some of our daily blackbirds seem to fly in from over the top of the house which is in the opposite direction to where the trees and bushes are at the end of our garden, its mainly curiosity as to where they go of a night time. |

We have a wood over the field behind us and I assume(d) that many travel there, but with the case of my local house sparrows they can be heard chirping at tea time as it gets dark only two gardens away amongst the conifers.
Also our blackbird roosts in a tree behind our wheelie bins! He's very local
Be interesting to see if anyone has any more specific info on this....

House Sparrows don't fly too far, infact they spend their whole lives close to home but other birds can fly miles to feed.
I know our Blackbirds roost in the trees out back and boy do they make a lot of noise.
We have around 30 Goldfinches coming in along with Chaffinches and Greenfinches and i see them coming in from the fields, flying over the roofs and landing in the huge tree accross the road before descending onto our feeders.Once they are here they spend all day close by.
The Crow family also seem to travel miles. |

No idea where the siskins go but I know when they've arrived cos they're noisy little blighters. What I want to know is what triggers mass feedings? It can be quiet for ages, then a couple of birds come in and next thing the whole tree is full of a pile of different species. Do the others hear a signal that the coast is clear? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
