| | | Bird for ID, please! I thought I was doing well to have 6 Goldfinches visit my feeders every day, as well as the usual tits, sparrows, blackbirds, pigeons, doves and finches but I spotted this little fellow passing through and only managed a not-too-good picture through the kitchen window.
A little smaller in every way than a blackbird, it's hard to see beak detail on the pic, but I hope you can see enough to id it for me!
Thanks! |

| | | Re: Bird for ID, please! Wow!
Thrilled, I am!
But not much smaller than a blackbird and a good bit bigger than a Goldfinch, definitely.
That's what puzzled me.
I checked my books and dismissed the Blackcap because it seemed too small and more beige/fawn/brown chest than gray.
And this little visiting guy is very definitely gray.
But I'd be highly chuffed to think I've seen a Blackcap in my garden!
Dublin, Ireland, btw. |

Blackcap - Length 13cm (5in); Wingspan 20-23cm (8-9in); Weight 14-20g
Goldfinch - Length 12.5-13cm (5in); Wingspan 21-25cm (8.5-10in); Weight 14-17g
Blackbird - Length 24-25cm (9.5-10in); Wingspan 34-38cm (13.5-15in); Weight 80-110g
making the typical Blackbird nearly twice the size and roughly 4-5 times the weight of the other two
Check it out the next time the Blackcap visits, which I hope it does
