| | | By how many octaves does your voice rise when you spot something new? This questions comes as a result of a conversation I was having with my neighbour yesterday about how completely unintelligible we are when we spot something new in the garden. And how our husbands have to say
"Calm down, say it slowly and perhaps lower your voice out of the range of dog hearing and then I might get what the excitement is all about"
The word, Siskins, at very high pitch is, I understand, very difficult TO understand. So I'm told
Oh and how many of you have actually scared off the object of you excitement with your squeals? I managed that with an otter once |

When they see something new they usually shout "Oh my God" in a high pitched voice. This call has a tendency to be heard most frequently in shops.

Only things worth squealing about get squealed about by me - in my opinion of course |

Of course Ladies, a demure and proper reaction elicited from a lady of breeding when confronted by an object of interest is a gentle 'Ah' followed by a subtle raising of one perfect eyebrow, a glance of bored and extremely feminine enkindlement of interest, a soft, almost inaudible sigh and a continuance of the topic of conversation so unfortunately broken.
Not; 'Wahay, cop a load o' that'!
Yeah sure! What I'd like to know is why teenage girls are SO ruddy loud!!! I have three. They can be 8" apart and still heard 1/2 mile off.
One of the cruellest things ever done to my poor father in law was the purchase of a hearing aid. He had 6 daughters all of an excitable nature and all sopranos. Cruel and unusual punishments indeed !

I suppose if you get to the level of only audible to dogs, you have to hope that birds don't hear on the same frequency. I'd be VERY annoyed with myself if I scared off a Bittern. I have learnt self-control of a sort in a bird hide......
As for noisy teens - my teenage son can be heard for miles now his voice has broken. His idea of whispering in a packed theatre recently was so embarrassing - even the actors glared very briefly in his direction |

It sort of goes "Aher, ahee, aha, her, heee, hoo" in shorts spurts with lots of pointing and arm waving | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
