Nest boxes

Guys, what are the rules re, nest boxes and there location.

I have two boxes, one faces west on a 6ft fence post with over hanging tree cover, the other is north facing in a v branch of My palm tree about 8 ft off the ground.

Both boxes have been in place for three or four years and every year i get lots of interest in both but never any takers, what am i doing wrong.

Personally I find placing them facing East or South-east best as that avoids the cold and the wet and also they don't fry if we ever get a hot summer. 6 or 8 foot up is fine as long as there is no easy access for predators.

Mine are all sited correctly with like you no takers!
However my neighbour has hers facing due S and gets birds every year!!!
